Free co-op maze game on two phones

BIGBOARD.GAMES's co-op maze game on two phones is free in the browser and played in the same room: lay the phones flat, facing each other, and they become one maze with one marble, steered by whoever has it on their screen.

How to start

  1. Open bigboard.games on every device and tap Start a table on one of them.
  2. The others join by themselves on the same Wi-Fi; elsewhere, scan the QR code or type the four-letter code.
  3. Lay the devices edge to edge, screens up, as the drawing shows, and pick the game.

One marble, two steerers

Lay the two phones flat, facing each other, and tap It's flat on both: the tap levels each phone's tilt, and on an iPhone it also asks to use motion. After a 3-2-1 the marble drops on one screen, and only that phone steers it. Tilt it and the marble rolls through your half of the maze.

Where the screens meet, the maze continues through openings in the wall and the marble rolls under the bezels. Three millimetres past the middle of the gap it becomes your partner's, and now their tilt moves it while you watch. The tilt bubble in the band along your edge shows whose tilt counts, in their colour. On one phone, two people share a single tilt instead.

Stretches, portals and the hole

At level 1 the hole is on the other phone, so you must hand the marble over at least once. After that it is on the same phone one level in four. Each level, one phone gets the tricky stretch, narrower and with more pits, and the other the light one; a diamond and a chip say which, and they swap as you go.

From level 4, portals appear: a hole ringed in the colour of the phone it leads to, which sends the marble straight across. Pits arrive from level 3, bumpers from 5 and sliding bars from 7, so a long run of 12 levels ends far tighter than it starts. A third player lays a third phone: see the co-op maze game for 3.

A shared score, and a friend far away

There is one score for the pair: a thousand points a level, minus three a second and seventy-five a fall. The end card shows both and tells who fell where, so the blame can be shared fairly. It's the one co-op game among the 2 player games on different phones.

If your partner is somewhere else, they can join with the table's link or code. Their screen shows the whole maze, turned to fill it, with the marble wherever it rolls, and they ride along: only the screens on the table tilt the maze, so they watch, cheer and call out the route.

2 players: questions and answers

Does whoever has the marble steer it?

Yes, the phone it is on steers it by its own tilt, and the other one watches until it crosses.

Is the score shared?

Yes, one score for both of you: levels, minus the time, minus the falls.

Can a friend play from another place?

Yes, they watch the whole maze and the marble on their screen and ride along while yours tilts it.

Can a phone and a tablet play together?

Yes, any two devices work; upright ones make tall sections and sideways ones wide.
