How to start
- Open bigboard.games on one phone or tablet and tap Start a table.
- Pick the game; the players at this device are set before the match.
- Lay the device flat between you and play.
Flat, tap, tilt
Start a table on one device with just you on it and pick Tilt Run, the tilt maze game. The whole maze fits on your screen. Lay the device flat and tap once: the tap levels the tilt, and on an iPhone or iPad it is also when the browser asks to use motion. A 3-2-1, and the marble drops at the start.
The marble rolls like a real one, with real weight, a little friction and bounces off the walls, worked out 240 times a second. Under about one degree of tilt it stays put; past 30 degrees it rolls no faster, so small movements are what win.
Levels that tighten as you go
Every level is new, built from a seed. Level 1 is wide, with 34 millimetres between walls; by level 12 the corridors are down to 21. Pits arrive at level 3, portals at 4, bumpers at 5, sliding bars at 7, one-way gates at 9, and ice and sand on the twelfth.
A pit isn't the end. The marble comes back at the last checkpoint 0.9 seconds later and the fall goes on your count. On one screen, portals jump the marble from one point of your maze to another. With friends they jump between devices, as in the co-op maze on two phones.
Score, par and Lantern
A run scores a thousand points a level, minus three a second and seventy-five a fall. Each level also has a par time, between 15 and 150 seconds by its length and pieces, and the end card counts the levels you cleared under it, next to the best score for that run length.
Pick Lantern in the lobby for the same run in the dark, lit only around the marble. No tilt sensor, as on a laptop? Drag anywhere on the screen to tilt. Want company without a friend? A bot partner steers half of your screen.
