How to start

  1. Open bigboard.games on every device and tap Start a table on one of them.
  2. The others join by themselves on the same Wi-Fi; elsewhere, scan the QR code or type the four-letter code.
  3. Lay the devices edge to edge, screens up, as the drawing shows, and pick the game.

A maze laid out in a row

Three devices lie side by side in a row, each held flat. The middle one has a seam on both sides and the two at the ends one each, so the marble has to cross the middle screen to get from one end to the other by rolling under the bezels. The co-op maze on two phones has just the one seam.

From level 4, portals change that. A portal is a hole ringed in another device's colour, and it sends the marble straight there, so a portal can link devices that don't touch, and from level 10 a second pair can join the first. Learning which ring leads where is part of every level, and the co-op maze game for 4 adds a fourth screen, in a block or a long row.

Taking turns at the hard part

Every level, one device's section is the tricky stretch, with narrower corridors and more pits, and another gets the light one. With three, the tricky stretch moves on each level, so everyone gets their share of the hard part and nobody can hide on the easy screen.

A diamond mark and a chip on each screen say which stretch it holds. The corridors also tighten as the run goes on, from 34 millimetres between walls on level 1 toward 21 by level 12.

When someone has to go

If a player leaves in the middle of a run, nobody has to start over. Every device builds the level again without that screen, says so, and play resumes a second and a half later on the two devices left.

Short of a third person? Lay a spare device in the row and let a bot drive it: seated at that screen, it steers the marble across it whenever the marble gets there.
