How to start

  1. Open bigboard.games on one phone or tablet and tap Start a table.
  2. Pick the game; the players at this device are set before the match.
  3. Lay the device flat between you and play.

A joystick at each edge

A swipe can't tell two hands apart, so on a shared screen each player steers with a joystick of their own: a ring in their colour, 9 millimetres in radius, in a band 26 millimetres deep along the edge they sit at, with up pointing away from them. It steers four ways: push it a new way and the snake turns.

Sit across from each other with the device flat between you. Each snake starts out toward its own player's edge, near their joystick, and your name, the count and each round's banner read from your side of the screen. Of the 2 player games on one phone, it's the one you steer by joystick.

Phone or tablet

A phone fits two players, one at each end. A tablet fits up to four, one at each edge, which turns a single tablet into a four-player snake game. Both play the same rules as across devices: pellets, three power-ups, the closing border, best of 3 by default.

On a computer, the first player steers with the arrow keys and the second with WASD, so two people can share one keyboard. Play One big board on this screen; speed, walls and the border work as they do anywhere.

A bot in a free seat

Bots can join a shared screen too, and they count toward the same limits: a phone holds two snakes, a tablet four, bots included. A bot needs no joystick, so one person and three bots fit on a tablet.

When the match ends, the end card faces each player the same way their joystick does, so nobody reads the result upside down.
