How to start

  1. Open bigboard.games on every device and tap Start a table on one of them.
  2. The others join by themselves on the same Wi-Fi; elsewhere, scan the QR code or type the four-letter code.
  3. Lay the devices edge to edge, screens up, as the drawing shows, and pick the game.

A 2 × 2 block of screens

Four devices make the best field as a block: two facing pairs side by side, so the table is a square with two players on each side of it. A row of four, side by side, works too and makes a long field. Snakes cross every seam straight on.

No four devices? Four people can share one tablet, each steering with a joystick in a band along their own edge, and their snakes start toward their own sides. Two fit on a phone.

Crowded rounds

With four or more snakes, the field fills fast. Every snake that goes out leaves pellets in its colour, and the others race for them; head to head, the longer snake survives. Add bots and the field holds up to twelve snakes, each in its own colour. Every head is its player's face, critter or photo, so even in a crowd you know which snake is yours, and an arrow at your screen's edge points to it when it is on another screen.

The border keeps rounds short: it closes a ring at a time from the outside in. Set it to Later for longer rounds, or Off, and a round still ends at 10 minutes. Crowded, quick rounds like these make it one of the party games on phones.

The end card, and a device that leaves

The match goes to the first to win half the rounds: two of three by default, or one round or best of five. The end card names the winner and shows the rounds each snake won, the longest snake and the most knockouts.

If a device drops out mid-match, the other three can play on without it, as in the 3 player snake game. Its snake is out, and its screen leaves the field at the same moment on every device.
